DUE NOV 28.

You are given a task to built the most hi-tech poultry processing plant in the world. You have been asked to prepare a report on 5 new technologies to be included in poultry processing area which are being used in other industries. Describe each technology, write how it can be used in the poultry industry and how it can benefit the industry. 20 Points

Track Device

At a leaders conference I attended a couple of months ago, I met a gentlemen that worked for an engineering company. They sold a system to meat companies, mostly cattle, to track the cattle to the carcass to the grocery store. Each meat package at the grocery store contained a bar code. The bar code, once scanned, would tell consumers which facility the meat was processed, time of processing, and where the cattle was raised. His explanation for this technology was that consumers wants to be connected and be informed of their food products. This gives them another level of connection and makes the company that utilizes this technology desirable.

Collecting Feathers

The pork and cattle industry utilizes the hides off of their animals when processing. In poultry, we try to sell every part of the bird, why not make a greater prophit margin? I believe if poultry companies invented a machine that collected feathers, we could sell the feathers to a manufacturing companies that perhaps makes pillows or blankets. Also, in undeveloped countries, individuals utilize poultry feathers for clothes. The possibilities are endless.

3D imaging

3D imaging machines can be utilized before and after deboning and also before and after cutup. This can provide estimate yield loss instantly, which allows workers to determine how well they are doing on the processing line throughout the day. This is especially important when the long hours of the day begins and works become sloppy with their cuts. Furthermore if utilizing cutting machines, for instance cutting up spilt breast to be 99% fat free, it can be utilize to determine efficiency of the machines and if any adjustments need to be made.

Robotic Arms

Georgia Tech this past spring developed robotic arms. It has been tested in poultry facilities and can cut around the shoulder joint with 95% accuracy. Georgia Tech has stated they believe they can make is 99% efficient. I believe with the assistance of the 3D imaging, the robotic arms can be critical for deboning and saving a substantial amount of yield off of products. Not only saving on yield but saving on labor costs, which debone is one of the most time consuming training positions and hardest to keep staffed.

Purify Water

One of the biggest plant cost for any processing plants includes water usage. I believe the poultry industry needs to invest in is purifying water that can be recirculated in the system. I know most poultry plants, which I know of, have a system where only certain water can only be recycled that has been used in the plant. I believe a housing unit needs to be installed with a technology that can purify any contaminated water and be able to reuse for a couple of cycles. By doing so, it can save a company millions and help their local ecosystem.
